05/28/11

We spent J's 27th birthday in Petit Etang. It was actually a house warming which we incorporated Jon's birthday celebration in there. They have such a beautiful spot. Everywhere you look has stunning views of the mountains. They own a couple of acres which backs on to this more then stunning beach. While enjoying all of the sights we stuffed our faces with lobster, mussels, potato salad, and salad. For dessert we enjoyed Jon's birthday cake, Thank You Bob and Lorraine!

That night we passed hundreds of runners/spectatators who were participating in the Cabot Trail Relay which I really want to train for. Most legs are 17km and up hills and mountains, so I better start training now!

Setting up for our delicious feast!
J is loving it!

Birthdays!

Today is J and his sisters Christana's Birthday today!!! They are exactly a year apart. Hmmm imagine growing up and having to share your special day with your brother or sister? All of the attention is not all on you! For an attention whore like myself, I don't know if I would love it :p As adults it would be fun, especially if they lived in the same province. They could have one big party!!! I hope you enjoy your day Nan! J and I are going to a lobster boil tonight on the other side of the island, FUN! I can't wait to give him his present :D

In love

J and I just keep falling more and more in love with this place. Sometimes we just have those moments where we are like "wow, we live in this beautiful province together." Yesterday it was absolutely gorgeous out and we were not taking it for granted. I just love those evenings where everything just feels right. I'll share a little piece of it with you.

Happy Days

Fave photo: Lilith loves to digs holes to keep cool. She put her head in there for a good couple of minutes

Happy hunting

Have any of you heard of geocaching? People are so hard core into it, it's unbelievable. They have their own little geocache community. It's basically one big game of treasure hunt. You use a gps and find the appropriate coordinate for your area and go hunting! Most cache boxes have some little souvnier in them so be sure to bring something to replace the treasure you take.

The first one I ever found was when I was living in Parksville, BC during my stint with Katimavik eight years ago. We found I believe two cache boxes. I don't recall what was in them but we did take something and put a Katimavik pin in replace. You are supposed to also sign the log book, which is pretty cool. People from all over the world are into this, and some will go on special trips just to go cacheing. The first geocache box was actually in Nova Scotia, 30 minutes outside of Halifax.

You are probably wondering why the sudden interest in geocaching. Well, part of my job includes teaching/helping people geocache. I just retaught myself how to do it this week. I have found 4 out of 5, I better find the fifth one before I attempt helping people. Our boxes don't contain any treasures as we are located on a provincial park, we have just little pieces of information about the location inside each box. Not as exciting, but as dorky as this is, it's so exciting finding that little box.

Back to work I go

How do people find time to work or go to school full time, maintain a social life and blog on the regular?! I will try my best to be a good little blogger and post daily, but no promises.

Yay for me and the tourist season for Cape Breton firing up!! I can finally work again, wooo weeee!!! It's feeling so unbelievably great to join all of you people in the work force. Right now my time is being spent organizing all kinds of games and making contacts for the 2011 season. I am really feeling confident that this is going to be a great season at the lodge. The new manager is bringing back the old traditions that made the place a unique and memorable experience. Unfortunately, we don't have the money to make the necessary renovations to give it a much needed face lift. But we do have the location, staff, history, activities and entertainment on our side.

I just wanted to brag a little bit and share my "office" view with you. My office consists of a desk, ping pong table, elliptical, treadmill, weights, bicycles, craft supplies and board games....

I came across these awesome videos again today and wanted to share them with you all. Enjoy

I love the peoples reactions the best!

I just saw this more then amazing marriage proposal on Suburbs of Utopia and punched J for not being so creative :p His proposal was very sweet though. He proposed on our house hunting trip in our new province. I will tell more about the details in a later post. For now please enjoy this video, so cute!

Take two

One of my favourite sites for a good laugh is AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com. You need to check it out. But first, in honour of my wedding (in 110 days :D) here are a few of my favourite wedding pictures gone hilariously wrong.

Kalapa Valley

I have wanted to do this hike ever since we moved into the area. Whenever we pass it I am always in awe. And for for good reason, I found out later the buddhists felt the same way and claimed it as sacred ground. Read more about it here.

This hike wasn't a strenuous hike in the least. It was an extremely enjoyable two hour walk rather, mind you we couldn't explore the full extent of it as a bridge had washed out.  It has rained so much lately that the waterfalls and river were booming. I wouldn't recommend doing this hike without rubber boots in the spring. We can't wait to visit again.
